Govt committed to utilizing tax revenues for development of masses: PM

Islamabad, August 28 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday said the government is committed to utilizing tax revenues for the development and welfare of common man in the country.

Chairing a meeting on revenue and tax collection in Islamabad, he said that economic turn-around achieved as a result of prudent policies of the government would be further consolidated to maintain macroeconomic stability and ensure sustainable economic growth.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar briefed the Prime Minister on current economic and financial health of the country.

The Prime Minister was apprised that collection of taxes has witnessed upward trajectory over past four years and overall tax collection has increased on sustainable basis making the outflows available for infrastructural development projects as well as public welfare schemes.

Earlier, talking to British High Commissioner Thomas Drew in Islamabad on Monday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that Pakistan is desirous of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan has suffered immensely on account of the situation in Afghanistan and it had the greatest stake in that country’s return to normalcy.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan is continuing a successful campaign against terrorism inside the country and made enormous sacrifices.

The two sides also discussed the regional situation, enhancement of bilateral trade and the significant role of Pakistani community in the UK.

The British High Commissioner said the Britain is committed to support Pakistan in its efforts for a peaceful and stable region. He recognized the sacrifices made by Pakistani law enforcement agencies and the military.

He said the operations carried out by Pakistan had helped in cleaning up large parts of tribal areas of terrorists and terrorist networks.
