ISLAMABAD Aug. 29 (TNS): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan wrote a letter to the National Assembly speaker on Tuesday seeking the termination of dissident party MNA Ayesha Gulalai’s parliament membership.
A copy of the letter has also been submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
In the letter, the PTI chief has requested the speaker and the chief election commissioner to take action against Gulalai, an MNA from South Waziristan elected on a reserved seat for women, under Article 63-A (2) of the Constitution.
Khan, in his letter, submitted that in violation of rules, Gulalai did not vote for Sheikh Rashid, the party’s candidate for the seat of the prime minister.
He added that the PTI had issued a show cause notices to Gulalai but she had not responded to them. Therefore, he contended, action should be taken against Gulalai Article 63-A (2) of the Constitution for not following the party’s directives.
The PTI chief requested the speaker to refer the matter to the chief election commissioner within two days so that the latter could act as per law within the prescribed time frame.
Earlier this month, Gulalai parted ways with the PTI after levelling allegations of sexual harassment against its chairman.
She claimed that women affiliated with the party faced constant harassment from within the party ranks.
“It is my integrity that matters to me the most,” the MNA from South Waziristan told reporters. “I cannot compromise when it comes to my honour and dignity.”
She alleged that women working with the party received lewd text messages, and she could not put up with this any longer.
