NAB files references against Sharif family, Dar

ISLAMABAD Sept 8 (TNS): National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed four references against Sharif family members and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the accountability courts of Islamabad on Friday, sources said.

NAB prosecution wing under the headship of Deputy Prosecutor General NAB Sardar Muzaffar filed the references in the accountability court. The references were filed against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his children and son-in-law while another was registered against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in compliance with the Supreme Court’s landmark verdict in the Panamagate case as they were declared as accused. The registrar of the accountability court has verified the received references, sources added.

According to sources, Section 9 of the NAB Ordinance 1999 was applied in three references against the former PM Nawaz Sharif. The section is about the illegal exchange of gifts and money. NAB Rawalpindi has included all the 14 sub sections and the punishment under the section is 14 years imprisonment. Section 14-C was applied against Ishaq Dar and under this section also the punishment is of 14 years. Section-C is regarding holding extra assets beyond earnings.

Sources said that for the public representatives the punishment can entail disqualification for the life time. Maryam Nawaz has been accused of providing false documents with reference to schedule II and section 131-A is also included for interfering with the investigation against her. Under this allegation, 3 years of imprisonment is likely.
