MIANWALI Sept 8 (TNS):  Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi inaugurated Pakistan’s 5th nuclear power plant C-4 at Chashma today.

The newly-inaugurate plant will add 340MW electricity to the national grid, augmenting government efforts to overcome the crippling energy crisis.

The Chashma nuclear power projects units, C-1, C-2 and C-3 have been successfully contributing to the national grid since 2000, 2011 and 2016, respectively.

Two nuclear power plants, K-2 and K-3 are being construction near Karachi and are scheduled to be operational in 2020 and 2021, respectively. They will add 2,200 MW electricity to the national grid.

The government is aiming to eliminate power shortage by 2018 with many projections nearing completion which will be commissioned later this year or early next year.
