SRINAGAR Sept 10 (TNS): Chairman APHC Syed Ali Geelani has said, “Restrictions on political activities in the state and disallowing resistance leadership to court arrest before the NIA in Delhi signify a moral victory for resistance camp.”
“Though the state police chief DGP SP Vaid in his statement had said that resistance leaders are free to go anywhere, however contrary to his statement, Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were placed under house arrest and heavy contingent of police were deployed outside their residences,” a statement issued by resistance leadership said.
It said the “police arrested Mohd Yasin Malik and shifted him to central jail Srinagar.”
Resistance leaders had decided to court arrest before NIA in New Delhi for “its highhandedness, revival of Ikhwan type bullying and intimidations against leadership and people. However, Indian authorities didn’t allow them to take this democratic step,” the statement said.
“It is the power of arrogance. The affairs of puppet regime and police are looked after and run by authorities in Delhi,” the statement said. “The lawlessness is at its peak. JKLF chief, Mohd Yasin Malik was initially sent to jail on police remand, then set free and then rearrested during midnight.
“India’s national investigation agency NIA is running a defamatory campaign against leadership and people,” it said. While calling it (NIA raids) a “psychological crackdown”, the leadership said “its main aim is to make people scare and suppress their freedom sentiments.”
“We won’t succumb to the pressure and will fight tooth and nail against the campaign launched by NIA and its sinister designs,” it said. The leadership condemned the “uncalled for action against Prof A.R Geelani”, calling it “a brute and unjustified step.”
Prof Geelani, it said, was supposed to receive resistance leadership at Delhi airport.
Meanwhile, Syed Ali Geelani appealed UNO and international human rights agencies to take suo moto action “against the barbaric acts and asked to take cognizance of unabated human rightist violations in J&K.”
Reiterating its appeal for “civil curfew” on September 10, against the visit of home minister of India, the Hurriyat said that “oppressive measures and military might can never suppress the resilience and resolve of the people.”
Meanwhile, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) strongly condemned the arrest of Mohammad Yasin Malik and house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and continued detention of Syed Ali Geelani while sealing all roads to their residences and imposition of curfew and strict restriction in parts of Srinagar by the authorities, to disallow the leadership from going to New Delhi regarding the persecution and intimidation of the people from all walks of life and the leadership by the government through the NIA, and to court arrest at their headquarters to put an end to it.
The leadership according to the statement, said this move completely exposes the so called investigation and its actual purpose. Leadership asked that if they themselves volunteered to go to Delhi and let the investigating agency arrest them and ask them regarding the charges leveled against their organizations and the people’s political movement, why were they barred? Especially when the Government yesterday made tall claims of everyone being free to go anywhere, and released Mirwaiz from house arrest and Yasin from jail.
JRL said that stopping the resistance leadership from courting arrest, giving contradictory statements and creating a law and order bogey they have exposed themselves and their bluff. They said NIA should put an immediate end to this harassment.
