OIC terms violence against Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar as ethnic cleansing

Geneva, Sept 12 (TNS): Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has termed violence against Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar as ethnic cleansing and crime against humanity and demanded cessation of violence and accountability.

In a statement on behalf of the OIC at the 36th session of UN Humain Rights Council in Geneva, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Farukh Amil called upon Myanmar to allow access to UN Fact Finding Mission in the affected areas and bring all perpetrators of violence to justice.

He urged the international community to provide adequate humanitarian assistance to the Muslim in the Rakhine State of Myanmar and the refugees in Bangladesh.

He said that OIC would come up with initiatives to prevent crimes against humanity perpetrated by Myanmar forces.

He said the organization will ensure sustainable return and rehabilitation of all Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh.

The Ambassador also demanded to create conditions conducive to protection of lives, livelihoods and human dignity of Myanmar’s Muslim population.
