ISLAMABAD, 23 Sep (TNS): Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB said that Corruption is mother of all evils. NAB is committed to root out corruption and to recover looted money from corrupt with iron hands by using all its resources and deposit in national exchequer.

He was addressing to NAB Officers during his farewell visit to NAB Multan Bureau.

The Director General NAB Multan Mr. Atiq ur Rehman after welcome address apprised chairman about the performance of his bureau claimed that processing of over 5200 complaints is witness of bureaus success story of public confidence and trust reposed on NAB Multan.

While highlighting the performance of NAB Multan, DG NAB Multan said that NAB Multan conducted 356 Complaint Verification, 121 Inquiries, 58 Investigations and recovered Rs. 1392 million in cash and 81.15 million indirect recoveries besides retrieval of hundreds of plots and state land and returned to rightful owners. At the same time, we have conducted 13 Seminars, 4 PPRA workshops at District level, established 11 Character Building Societies (CBS) in Universities/Colleges and Schools to aware youth about the ill effects of corruption at an early age. The hard work, Commitment and dedication of NAB officers/officials Multan are very much visible in reducing corruption and corrupt practices from housing, education, public procurement, land revenue sectors.

The Chairman NAB while addressing as chief guest to officers/officials of NAB Multan said that the valuable time, I have spent in NAB during performing responsibilities as Chairman NAB, I have tried my level best to take steps for eradication of corruption by rejuvenating NAB as Corruption is mother of all evils. He said today NAB is absolutely committed to root out corruption in all its forms and manifestations with iron hands.

He said that due to number of new initiatives taken during my tenure, PILDAT, Transparency International and World Economic Forum appreciated Pakistan due to NAB efforts. He said that NAB under his guidance and supervision perfected its procedures to make NAB more effective and proactive in order to come up to expectations of the nation.

While praising NAB officials chairman Qamar Zaman has said that NAB, during the last four years has recovered Rs. 50/- billion from corrupt and deposited in the national exchequer which a record achievement as no other Anti-Corruption agency in Pakistan has recovered such a huge amount in short span of three years. He said that the figures of complaints, inquiries and investigations are almost double as compared to the same period of 2014 to 2017. He said that NAB since its inception, has recovered Rs. 290 billion and deposited in the national exchequer which is indicative of hard work, dedication, professionalism and transparency of all ranks of NAB officers/officials in an atmosphere of renewed energy and dynamism.

He said that today, NAB is the chairman of SAARC Anti-Corruption Forum. NAB is the only Organization in the world to whom China has signed MoU in order to streamline cooperation in the field of anti-corruption and oversee projects to be undertaken under CEPC. He said that NAB has established its first Forensic Science Lab (FSL) in Islamabad which has facilities of Digital Forensics, Questioned Documents and Fingerprint Analysis. He said that NAB has rationalized its workload and timelines have been prescribed for efficient, effective and expeditious disposal of cases putting a maximum limit of 10 months – from complaint verification-to-inquiry-to-investigation and finally to a reference in the Accountability Court. NAB has also introduced a new System of Combine Investigation Team (CIT) in order to benefit from the experience and collective wisdom of senior supervisory officers, a system of CIT comprising of Director, Additional Director, Investigation Officer and a Senior Legal Counsel has been put in place. This will not only lend quality to the work but also ensure that no single individual can influence the proceedings. The results of CIT are very encouraging.

The Chairman NAB said that NAB Multan is one of the important Regional Bureaus of NAB. It plays prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB. He appreciated the performance of NAB Multan and directed all ranks of officers of NAB Multan to work more vigilantly, diligently and honestly in order to curb corruption and corrupt practices from the country. He said performance of all wings of NAB Multan under the supervision of Mr. Atiq ur Rehman, Director General NAB Multan is appreciated and hoped that NAB Multan will continue its excellent performance in future.
