ISLAMABAD SEP 28 (TNS): A special Anti-Narcotics Court on Thursday heard the case of Ali Musa Gilani, the son of former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani who was involved in ephedrine quota scandal along with 10 others which hit the PPP government in 2011.
Ali Musla Gilani appeared before the special court today. In previous hearing bank accounts of Musal Ali Gilani were frozen following the request of Anti-Narcotic Force (ANF) to the court. Former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin accounts were also frozen.
The ephedrine case involves two Pakistani pharmaceutical companies — Berlex and Danas — that allegedly used political connections to obtain huge amounts of ephedrine and diverted it to people in the drug trade. The companies denied any wrongdoing.
Special court charged Ali Musa Gilani, former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin, health secretary Khushnood Lashari, former health Director General Asad Hafeez, former Deputy Drug Controller Abdul Sattar Shorwani, Sheikh Nusrat Anjum Shah and others.
Ali Musa Gillani was named as the accused in the case in 2012, when the Anti-Narcotics Force initially submitted a report before the Supreme Court (SC) formally naming Ali Musa Gillani and seven others for their alleged involvement in the scam.
Gillani was once arrested by ANF sleuths in 2012, right outside the SC premises.

However, he was granted bail by the apex court.
