Islamabad, Oct 11 (TNS): A resolution to bar disqualified person from heading a political party has been passed by the Senate, the upper House dominated by opposition parties.

The resolution was tabled by Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan.

The PPP leader stated that a person who is not eligible to become a member of the Parliament or has been disqualified cannot lead any political party.

The resolution bagged 52 people votes in favour while 28 members opposed it.

On other hand, Minister for Law Zahid Hamid said the resolution was unnecessary as nothing usual was happening in the country.

He added the resolution was passed with mala fide intentions hence should not be deliberated upon.
