Islamabad, Oct. 12 (TNS): In his remarks on the ‘The Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill, 2017, Committee Chairman Senator Rehman Malik said that no law should be approved contrary to Islamic injunctions.
Earlier, the Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control rejected ‘The Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill, 2017, moved by Senator Sehar Kamran, and referred the same to the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) for future review.
Rehman Malik said that it has been decided to the ‘The Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill, 2017’ shall be reconsidered and once again be placed before the Committee.
Senator Rehman Malik also condemned and took serious notice of the missing of a youth from the Shia community in Karachi during Muharram. He directed the committee secretary to direct the federal government and also the Sindh government to brief the committee on the issue.
Denouncing US secretary defence statement that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was passing through a disputed territory, Senator Rehman Malik said that US was speaking the language of Pakistan’s enemy, India, which was not acceptable.
He said that the CPEC was continuation of centuries old trade route for the purpose of regional prosperity and development. He said that the US instead of opposing the project should support and participate in peaceful activities to ensure peace in the region.
The committee expressed its concern over absence of the interior secretary in the meeting and warned him of action in case he did not ensure his presence in next meetings of the committee
