40 sixes by Australian cricketer bludgeons Viv Richards’ ODI record

430

CANBERRA Oct 16 (TNS): In a game hosted by the Port Augusta Cricket Association, West Augusta B Grade batsman Josh Dunstan hit a whopping 307 in a 35 over game against Central Stirling. Port Augusta is a port city in South Australia.

The high point of his innings was not just his mammoth total, but the 40 sixes he hit and the fact that his score was 86.72 per cent of his team’s total of 354.

To highlight the enormity of his feat, Viv Richard’s ODI record for the highest percentage of runs in an innings, a record that has stood for 33 years is now shattered. The West Indies legend hit 189 not out in 9-272, an innings display that stood for 69.48 per cent of his team’s total against England at Old Trafford in 1984.

What makes Josh Dunstan’s innings even more praiseworthy is the fact that five of his teammates fell for ducks. The second highest score was 18 not out with Dunstan coming in at 1-10 and scoring 307 of the 318 runs that followed.

Josh Dunstan did manage to find a partner in second top scorer Ben Russell. The pair went on to register 203-run partnership for the seventh wicket and Russell’s contribution was five runs.

Surely his jaw dropping innings has earned Dunstan some rest but more importantly it has put him in contention with Viv Richards.
