LAHORE Oct 16 (TNS): The Businessmen Panel (BMP) of FPCCI says Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) should be restructured on immediate basis and device a clear trade promotion policy for the exporters of this country as well as evolve a strategy on strong basis to introduce Pakistani products to the international buyers as most of the countries have least information and material about Pakistani products.

In a joint Statement, Khawaja Shahzeb Akram, Mian Usman Zulfiqar and Ahmad Jawad said Commerce Ministry may fill the vacant position of the CEO of Authority on priority with competent, full time and non-controversial person, so that TDAP start deliverance and play its role to increase exports with effective and long-term business plans.

We must understand it’s the mandate of the TDAP to address the trade diplomacy rightly with our trading partners in the light of our FTA and PTA’s.

They said it is the duty of the TDAP to develop and promote export holistically, through focus, synergy, and with collective wisdom and counsel of its stakeholders.

In addition to aggressive , innovative, and proactive marketing and promotional efforts in order to achieve the objective of rapid export growth through interaction and coordination with respective public and private–sector stakeholders, and enhancing value of products and services by broadening the export base of our products; enhancing capability and capacity of the supply base of goods and services; by fostering supportive export culture and facilitation; and by encouraging export oriented foreign investment and joint ventures.

Similarly TDAP have a binding to help improve market access through advising the Government on matters of trade diplomacy and promoting the “business” image of Pakistan in the key export markets for Pakistani products and services, the world over; they added.

BMP Officials stated the government has so far made no decision on the appointment of the new chief executive which is a matter of concern. We hope merit will prevail for this important assingment.

Criticising the performance of its former CEO, officials said that the organisation required a full-time executive as SM Muneer did nothing for exports during his three years ternure, we don’t want another like him who even didn’t qualify the given appointment criteria by the ministry, the government should bring in some professional.

They further told why Muneer kept silent for three years putting business community in dark for his vested interests. Now his stance totally changed of 180 degree, they questioned?

BMP also said that Pakistan GSP Plus status is in jeopardy; in this regard our commerce minister and Attorney General already reached Brussels. They urged European Union may extend our GSP Plus status and the ministry may instruct the TDAP officials to take the maximum benefit out it. Further ministry should call a comprehensive report from the Authority and review in detail that how many successful events were held in last three years in the EU countries
