Karachi, Oct 17 (TNS): The Karachi police said on Tuesday that Mohammad Waseem, the ‘prime suspect’ in the Karachi serial knife attacks might not be the real culprit.

Waseem was arrested a couple of days from central Punjab in connection with stabbing incidents in the largest metropolis in the country.

The police have been unable to find any evidence of Waseem’s presence in Karachi when knife attacks took place.

The residents of Karachi had breathed a sigh of relief after reports of arrest of stabbing culprit.

However, that respite has turned out to be short-lived when another stabbing incident occurred in Karachi on Tuesday.

Briefing senators at a meeting chaired by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s Nasreen Jalil on Tuesday, DIG East Sultan Khawaja said the police could not find enough evidence against the suspect.

There is no evidence that he was present in Karachi during the time the 13 knife attacks took place.

Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Mehar also briefed the participants of the Senate’s functional committee meeting.
