Sindh IG sets up 3-member committee to probe Naqeeb’s killing

KARACHI Jan 19 (TNS): IG Sindh AD Khawaja has constituted a 3-member committee to investigate the killing of Naseemullah alias Naqeeb Mehsud in an alleged encounter by SSP Malir Rao Anwar.

The move comes after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto directed Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwer Siyal to launch a probe into allegations that Naqib Mehsud was extra-judicially killed.

According to a notification issued by the IG office, Additional IG CTD Sanaullah Niazi, DIG East Sulan Ali Khawaja and DIG South Azad Khan have been asked to conduct an inquiry to assess and conduct the genuineness of the encounter by Malir police and to dig out the profile of the deceased.

The committee has been asked to complete the inquiry and submit its recommendations within three days.

SSP Rao Anwar insists that Naseemullah Mehdul was a member of the militant network.

Meanwhile, civil society, rights activists, Pashtun Students Federation (PSF) and devastated family and friends held a protest at Karachi press club, calling for a judiciary inquiry into Naqib’s death.

According to the deceased’s family, Naqib Mehsud was abducted and then killed in an encounter.
