New York, Oct 18 (TNS): At the United Nations, Pakistan has called for steps to prevent the weaponization of outer-space.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly’s Disarmament and International Security Committee, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the world body in Geneva, Farukh Amil said the outer-space should be explored and used exclusively for peaceful purposes.

He said while our reliance and dependence on outer space applications is increasing, the potential and risk of its weaponization is also on the rise.

The Pakistan Ambassador said there is an urgent need to address this issue in order to prevent outer space from emerging as the new realm of conflict and arms race.

He said certain countries have dominance in space technology but developing countries will not accept any discriminatory restrictions that hamper their peaceful pursuits in outer space.
