Sindh Govt to introduce 600 new buses in Karachi

KARACHI Oct 20 (TNS):  Sindh government has decided to introduce more than 600 eco-friendly buses on the roads of Karachi by next three months, said Minister for Transport, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

Talking to different delegations in his office, he said private companies and transporters’ bodies were being taken on board to help address the problems faced by commuters in the metropolis.

The provincial minister for transport, who also holds the portfolio of information and labour, said PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed immediate inception of short as well as long term schemes to facilitate the citizens.

In view of the transportation related problems, he said equal attention is also being paid to improve inter-city bus service.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said completion of the ongoing Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) will not only help strengthen transport facilities for Karachiites but also for the people from across the province visiting the provincial capital on regular basis.

“Besides addressing the transport problems fresh employment opportunities will also be created for the masses through BRTS,” he said.

Sindh Minister for Transport said all hurdles faced in completion of BRTS are being removed with equal attention to introduce eco-friendly buses in the ever expanding metropolis.

“The number of these buses will be gradually raised to 2000,” he said mentioning that experts are being involved to get materialized the envisaged plan.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah emphasized that optimum transparency and merit is being introduced in the implementation of BRTS and that no compromise will be made in quality.
