LARKANA Nov 05 (TNS): The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) workers on Sunday (today) took out protest processions in various cities of the country against a hike in petroleum product prices.

A sizeable protest was held outside the press club in Larkana city, one of the party’s home turf cities. A large number of party supporters and workers including district president Abdul Fatah Bhutto, General Secretary Khair Muhammad Sheikh, Muhammad Ali Bhugio, and Mashooq Jatoi participated in the protest, besides Naseeba Channa and Sakina from the party’s women-wing.

The protesters chanted slogans against the federal government and denounced the hike in petroleum product prices.

In Shikarpur, a walk out was staged by the party workers and supporters.

The party workers called for immediate withdrawal of upward revision in petroleum product prices. The protesters were holding placards inscribed with slogans calling the hike in fuel prices as a vengeful action.

In Nawabsah, district PPP President Ali Akbar Jamali led a protest demonstration outside the city press club. A large number of the party workers chanted slogans against the federal government over a rise in fuel price and prolonged power outages in the province.

Talking to media, the PPP district president said that the rising prices of basic commodities and electricity load-shedding were sheer failure of the ruling party’s policies.

A protest was also held outside the press club in Multan city over the hike in petroleum product prices.

Earlier on Nov 3, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had announced countrywide protest against the recent hike in prices of all petroleum products.

PPP would stage demonstrations outside press clubs in every district headquarter across the country on Sunday, said Qamar Zaman Kaira in a statement then.

The recent hike in the prices of petrol and diesel has drawn strong criticism from the opposition, including the PPP with its chairman deploring the government’s decision to increase the prices.

Earlier on Nov 1, the federal government revised prices of all petroleum products for the month of November.

The petroleum ministry enhanced the price of light diesel oil (LDO) by Rs3 per litre and that of kerosene oil by Rs5.19 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been hiked by Rs5.19 per litre and petrol by Rs2.49 per litre, the government announced.
