London, Nov. 6 (TNS): Amid acid attacks rocked Western societies, Muhammad Nawshad Kamal, a fast food delivery driver has been left “fighting for his life” according to London police after he was attacked with acid, British media reported on Monday.

According to Independent report, the attack may result in Kamal losing eyesight in both eyes.

The acid was thrown on Kamal by two robbers who tried to steal his bike. A 14-year-old has been identified as a suspect and is currently in custody.

“This attack has left a man fighting for his life and with terrible eye injuries,” Detective Chief Inspector Gordon Henderson said. “This was an innocent man going about his work as a delivery driver, who may never see again.”

Delivery drivers have been particularly vulnerable to acid attacks and have protested to gain more protection. The British government has responded to an increase in acid attacks by making it illegal to carry acid in a public place without legitimate cause. Further action may include placing sulfuric acid on a list of substances under the Poisons Act, which would only allow those with a licence to purchase it.
