Shahbaz Sharif calls on PM Abbasi, discuss Islamabad situation

Islamabad, Nov. 26 (TNS): Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to discuss the Islamabad situation in the wake of a failed operation at the federal capital’s Faizabad Interchange.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the possible options that the  government is considering to bring a peaceful end to the continuing protests.

The two leaders drew consensus on engaging the leaders of the religious parties snd scholars  as well as the military in an attempt to resolve the crisis in a peaceful way.

Clashes between the demonstrators and security forces were reported on Sunday for the second day on the outskirts of the federal capital as well as setting vehicles on fire before the protesters retreated back to their camp that had been set up more than two weeks ago.

At lease six people including Police Superintendent Amir Niazi were reported killed on Saturday while more than 200 people including 80 security personnel were injured during a failed operation that had been launched by the government to disperse the protesting crowd on early Saturday morning.
