ISLAMABAD Nov 30 (TNS): National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief Justice Retired Javed Iqbal on Thursday rejected the impression that the arrest of Miss Hameeda Khoso was made on account of her being Baloch.

He said the former senior district education officer Dera Bugti was actually nabbed over allegations of irregularities and corruption as she misappropriated an amount of over ten million belonging to 148 teachers and 31 staff members of the education department.

“Damaging the national exchequer and abuse of power are other charges under which she was taken into custody. Moreover, NAB had filed corruption reference against her in the accountability court on 4th July, 2003. As she did not appear before the court, therefore she was declared absconder,” he added.

NAB chief further said: “The impression that she was arrested because of being Baloch is absolutely wrong, rather she was arrested on the orders of the court as she had been declared absconder.

The bureau’s chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal emphasized the fact that NAB is a national institution that never acts illegally against anybody on the basis of province, party and race.
