ANKARA, Dec 07 (TNS): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has invited leaders of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to attend extraordinary meeting on Wednesday to discuss the status of Jerusalem.
A spokesman of the Turkish government told reporters in Ankara on Wednesday that the meeting will give an opportunity to Muslim leaders to act together and coordinate their response following President Donald Trump’s move to recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Turkey had urged Trump administration to turn away from this grave mistake that will virtually eliminate the fragile Middle East peace process.
Trump on Wednesday, by flouting the sentiments and calls of restraint from 1.50 billion Muslims and billions of their supporters from other religions all over the world, recognised the disputed city of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and announced to shift the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
“I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” the Islamophobic leader said in a speech from the White House, inviting wrath all over the world.
Trump announced his decision amid severe global criticism and warnings that the move would jeopardise the regional peace and create unrest among the Muslim block of the world.
