PM arrives in Istanbul to attend extraordinary OIC Summit on Al-Quds Al-Sharif

ISTANBUL, Dec.13 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived in Istanbul to attend the Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit on Al-Quds Al-Sharif being held here on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by Foreign Minister  Khwaja Muhammad Asif, Chief  Minister Punjab  Shahbaz Sharif and high officials.

The Prime Minister and his delegation was received by senior Turkish government officials, Pakistan Ambassador to Turkey Syrus Sajjad Qazi and officials of Embassy of Pakistan at the Ataturk International Airport, Istanbul.

The extraordinary summit has been called by the President of Turkey in his capacity as the Chair of the OIC summit. Most OIC members are expected to attend the day-long conference.

Heads of States and Governments of 26 Islamic states are expected  to attend the summit and  also explore ways to deal with the situation.

The summit will discuss the recent decision by the US Administration to shift the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The conference will be preceded by the Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting which will be attended by Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

Prime Minister Abbasi will convey the sentiments of the people and Government of Pakistan of the unequivocal support to the people of Palestine. He will stress upon the OIC for a united stance on the issue of Al-Quds Al-Sharif and call upon the US Administration to review its decision.

The people and Government of Pakistan have noted with grave concern the reported move by the United States to shift its Embassy to the occupied City of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, thereby altering the legal and historical status of the city.
