ISTANBUL Jan 05 (TNS): Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan warned today that bilateral legal accords with the United States are losing validity.

Speaking at a news conference before his departure to France for an official visit Erdogan lashed out at Washington over the conviction of a Turkish banker in a US trial.

Erdogan said “if this is the US understanding of justice then the world is doomed.”

A jury in a US federal court convicted an executive of Turkey’s majority state-owned Halkbank on Wednesday for evading sanctions against Iran which is a political attack against his government.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the conviction as unprecedented meddling in its internal affairs.
