Met Office predicts rainfall; snow in upper areas of country

LAHORE Dec 14 (TNS): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday forecasted additional rain in upper areas of the country and snowfall on the mountains.

Weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country. However rain-thunderstorm (with snowfall over the hills) occurred at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, FATA and Kashmir.

A westerly wave is still affecting upper parts of the country and may persist during next 24 to 36 hours.

According to the met office, more rain-thunderstorm is expected at a few places in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, and Rawalpindi divisions, Islamabad, Upper FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 24 hours. Very cold weather conditions are likely to prevail in northern parts of the country including Quetta. Foggy conditions are likely over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning hours.

Meanwhile, the temperature dropped below the freezing point on Thursday  in Kalat, Quetta, Dilbandin and other cities of Balochistan. The weather will remain dry in the next 24 hours.
