BHAKHAR Dec 23 (TNS): At least two people were injured when a train hit trolley carrying sugarcane in Shah Alam area of Bhakhar district late Friday night.

According to rescue sources, the engine of Rawalpindi-bound Mehr Express derailed after hitting the trolley, suspending railway traffic on tracks.

As a result, two people, including the drive and assistant driver of the train, sustained injures and were moved to a nearby medical facility for medical attention.

After being informed of the incident, the rescue teams immediately arrived at the site of the crash and began operation to shift the injured to hospital.

Railway officials said the operation to clear the tracks was underway.

Earlier this month, three bogies of a Lahore-bound passenger train had derailed near Sheikhupura’s Kala Shah Kaku area, affecting railway traffic and leading to cancellation of some local trains though nobody was hurt.

Lahore bound Khyber Mail was travelling from Peshawar when its three bogies came off the rails near Kala Shah Kaku area of Sheikhupura district.
