Lahore, Dec. 29 (TNS): The Punjab Food Authority has banned the production and sale of chooran – a mixture of powdered herbs and or minerals used in Ayurvedic medicine – across the province declaring that it had negative impacts on health.

A scientific panel of the authority after research has reached the conclusion that chooran, which is used for indigestion, acidity, gas trouble, and others, actually had harmful effects.

Punjab Food Authority Director General Noorul Ameen Mengal said tartaric acid present in chooran led to several diseases including ulcers, especially among children.

The official warned that strict action would be taken against those found violating the ban.
