LAHORE, Jan 08 (TNS): Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chief Tahirul Qadri has announced to launch countrywide anti-PML-N campaign from January 17, after all parties conference (APC) seven-day deadline ended on January 7 for the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah over their alleged involvement in the Model Town carnage.
Addressing a press conference after meeting of Steering Committee, formed on December 30 at All Parties Conference (APC) chaired by PAT head Dr Tahirul Qadri, PAT chief said, “Now we will not ask Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah to step down, but will get their resignations forcibly.”
“We will make them (PML-N) accountable not only for the martyrs of Model Town but for entire Pakistan,” Qadri said.
The steering committee comprises members from PPP, PTI, MQM, PAT and PSP.
The action committee has been formed to review administrative work of the protest campaign and its first meeting will be held on January 11, he said.
Qadri went on to say the all announcement being made with the consultation of all parties participated in the APC on December 30 last year.
The PAT chief warned protest would not stop until the entire PML-N [government] is finished.
Earlier, steering committee of opposition parties over Model Town tragedy met on Monday and agreed to not extend deadline for Punjab chief minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif and law minister Rana Sanaullah to resign and that protests was the way forward for the opposition.
Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri presided over a meeting of opposition leaders today to decide over party’s course-of-action.
Reportedly, the participants agreed to lodge protests against ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for Model Town massacre on July 17, 2014.
Before the steering committee meeting PAT Chairman Tahirul Qadri has met with AML head Sheikh Rashid and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) central leader Jahangir Tareen.
On December 30, 2017 the PAT-led APC decided January 7 deadline for CM Shehbaz Sharif, provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and others responsible for the Model Town incident to resign.
Addressing the joint press conference, PAT chief Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri told journalists that in case the January 7 deadline was not met, the steering committee would announce the future plan of action on January 8 (today) which may include sit-ins in Lahore or across the country.
