Islamabad June 22 (TNS): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday warned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan to file his reply in the foreign case by July 6, otherwise, it would be deemed that the party has no reply and the law will take its course.

When the ECP bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan took up the foreign funding case involving the PTI, the party chief again could not submit the reply and the PTI counsel requested the bench to delay the hearing since they have not prepared their defense. The counsel claimed that a corrupt mafia has let itself lose against Imran Khan.

The ECP chief asked the counsel to first submit a reply and then argue. The commission gave the last chance to PTI to submit the reply by July 6.  The commission postponed the hearing till July 10.

Former PTI worker Akbar S Babar has filed an application accusing the party chief of receiving funds from foreigners including Jews and Hindus especially during the PTI sit-in in 2014.

Babar has alleged that illegal money was sent to Imran Khan by unidentified individuals through Hundi and Hawala channels. He also claimed that millions of rupees stuffed in gunny bags made their way to Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence while the party was staging the sit-in.

The PTI has moved the Islamabad High Court against the petition saying the ECP did not hold the jurisdiction to hear the foreign funding case.
