Foreign tourist killed in occupied Kashmir avalanche

Srinagar, Jan. 18 (TNS): A foreign tourist was killed and another is missing on Thursday after an avalanche struck at Upper Wat area of Gulmarg- the famous health resort place in occupied Kashmir.

According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred today afternoon when the foreigner tourists while skiing in the area after the avalanche struck near second phase of Gandola cable car project on Affarwat peak.

“Two tourists came under the avalanche and one of them was so far evacuated to nearby hospital by the rescuers where he was declared brought dead.

The slain tourist has been identified as Daniel from Sweden,” he said.

Meanwhile, former puppet chief minister and National Conference’s working president, Omar Abdullah asked how were the two skiers allowed to ski despite an avalanche warning, terming it as very unfortunate.

“Very unfortunate. How were these skiers allowed to ski off piste considering that avalanche warnings had been issued 24 hours ago?,” Omar tweeted.
