Govt decides to place Qadri on ECL

Islamabad, Jan. 18 (TNS): Government has decided to place controversial cleric Tahir ul Qadri’s name in the Exit Control List (ECL), local media quoting sources reported on Thursday.

According to reports, the decision was made during a high-level meeting led by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

During the meeting, cases pending against Dr Qadri were discussed, reports said adding that the meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif and adviser to the prime minister on finance Miftah Ismail.

Qadri is nominated in several cases of terrorism related to the violence during the 2014 dharna.

The cases are being heard in an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad where Qadri has been declared a proclaimed offender due to his continuous absence.
