Quetta June 23 (TNS): A suicide bomb blast ripped through the Shuhada Chowk area of Quetta, killing at least 11 people including four policemen and injuring 16 others.

The alleged suicide bomber riding a car blew himself up on Gulistan Road, close to the office of the Police Inspector General, when security forces singled him to stop car. The victims and the injured were shifted to Bolan Medical Hospital and other health facilities. The suicide bomber, as some media outlets reported, apparently wanted to target the IG office.

Deputy Inspector General Police, Abdul Razzaq Cheema told the media that the nature of the blast is yet to be determined. “It is being investigated,” he said.

According to eye-witnesses, the explosive-laden vehicle was blown up by the rider, as soon as he was stopped for snap checking.

Security officials have cordoned off the blast site and the CCTV footage of the blast site has been obtained for further investigation. Balochistan government spokesman Anwarul Haq Kakar said that India is using terrorism as a weapon against Pakistan. “India is using terror as a weapon of choice. It has unleashed terror across the country.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the blast and added that terrorism will be rooted out with full force. “Targeting the innocent police in the holy month of Ramazan is the worst form of forwardness. We will leave no stone unturned to bring the terrorists to justice. The nation is determined to take out terrorists and their sympathizers,” the premier said asking the Balochistan government to provide best medical facilities to the injured.
