DAMASCUS, Jan 28 (TNS): Syrian government and opposition have agreed on a cease-fire in rebel-held Eastern Ghouta countryside of the capital Damascus during talks at Vienna, Austria.
The cease-fire ended a two-month escalation between government forces and rebels in the Eastern Ghouta region.
Both sides also agreed on entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged areas and exchange of detainees.
The opposition saying it would not attend a Syrian peace congress that Russia is holding in Sochi during next week.
The boycott comes to the backdrop of escalating violence in northern Syria, where Turkey is attacking a Kurdish-held enclave.
On the other side,there are reports of bombardment of the rebel-held eastern Ghouta area of Syria early today, despite ceasefire agreement.(Xhinua/AP/REUTERS)
