Kabul, Feb. 1 (TNS): Afghan forces on Thursday claimed to have killed a key commander of the Taliban group in an ambush of the Afghan national defense and security forces in northern Faryab province.

According to Khaama Press, the 209th Shaheen Corps said the Taliban commander identified as Mullah Yar Mohammad was killed along with one of his companions in Khwajah Sabz Posh district.

The Shaheen Corps officials said the ambush against Mullah Yar Mohammad was laid late on Wednesday in Kusa Qala area of the district.

The officials further added that four Taliban insurgents were also critically wounded and two Ak-47 rifles and a motorcycle belonging to the insurgents were confiscated.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

According to the Shaheen Corps officials, Mullah Yar Mohammad who was also famous as Bismillah was among the key commanders of the Taliban group who was actively involved in destructive and terrorist related activities in this province.

Faryab is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern parts of the country where the Taliban insurgents and militants belonging to the other terrorist outfits are actively operating in some of its districts.

However, the Afghan security forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations in a bid to root out the terrorist groups from Faryab and other northern provinces.
