BERLIN Feb 05 (TNS): Germany has urged Europe to lead the way in pushing for nuclear disarmament after the proposed US upgrading and expanding of its nuclear arsenal.

This was stated by German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel while responding to the US Nuclear Posture Review released by the Pentagon on Friday.

He said that Europe is especially endangered by a renewed nuclear arms race. Therefore, it must begin new initiatives for arms control and disarmament.

He called for unconditionally upholding the existing arms control treaties.
