Islamabad, Feb 16 (TNS):  Former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar has failed to appear before the Supreme Court of Pakistan despite being granted protective bail in  Naqeebullah Mehsood case.

There was no sign of Rao Anwar on Friday morning as the Supreme Court began hearing the Naqeebullah Mehsud extra-judicial killing case. The court, police and family of Naqeebullah Mehsood were hoping the fugitive officer would turn up today after the court orders. Earlier Supreme Court of Pakistan granted protective bail of suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar after he pleaded guilty in a letter written to Chief Justice Saqib Nisar.  Rao Anwar claimed that he was not even at the site of ‘fake encounter. A large number of security personnel were deployed outside the Supreme Court ahead of the hearing. Sindh Police Inspector General Police AD Khowaja and other senior officials were in Islamabad to attend the hearing. The case was being heard by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar. Sindh IG AD Khawaja appeared before the court and informed the bench that Anwar has not appeared today. Justice Nisar remarked that suspended Malir SSP Rao Anwar has lost a big opportunity by not to appear in court today. IGP Sindh acknowledged that Rao Anwar should be given chance to defend himself.  The chief justice had reprimanded A. D. Khowaja for failing to produce Anwar in court.
