India warned against shifting of detainees to Jammu

Srinagar, February 20 (TNS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, has warned the Indian authorities of serious consequences against the shifting of political prisoners from Srinagar Central Jail to the jails in Jammu.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar appealed to the International Committee of Red Cross, Asia Watch, Amnesty International and other world human rights organisation to come to the rescue of these detainees, who are being shifted out of the Kashmir Valley due to political vengeance. The APHC Chairman hailed the sacrifices of the prisoners including Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Dr Shafi Shariati, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Ghulam Qadir Butt, Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Peer Saifullah, Raja Meraj-ud-Din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Shahid-ul-Islam, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori and others saying that all the Kashmiri detainees were living legends and icons of the ongoing freedom movement.

The Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at a meeting in Srinagar urged concrete steps to resolve the Kashmir dispute through a sustained and meaningful dialogue process with active participation of all the stakeholders including the true representatives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

A delegation of Tehreek-e-Mazahmat led by its Chairman, Bilal Siddiqi, visited Soibugh area of Badgam district and expressed solidarity with the family of a mentally-challenged man, Syed Habibullah, who was killed by the Indian forces near Air Force station in the district, yesterday. Addressing the mourners, Bilal Siddiqi said that the killing of an innocent man had exposed the brutal face of the Indian forces.
