Islamabad Feb 27 (TNS): The wrangling between the “PIB Colony Group” and the “Bahadurabad Group” to claim over the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan could not be sorted out as the Election Commission of Pakistan sought a reply from Farooq Sattar after the Bahadurabad Group led by Khalid Maqbool Siddique pleaded the poll body to register the party in his name.

The poll has sought the reply from Sattar and adjourned the hearing till March 1

Currently, the MQM-P is registered with Sattar, who also held intra-party polls and elected himself as convener of the party while the Bahadurabad Group declared the elections illegal. The Bahdurabad Group claims to have the representation of 95 percent of the Rabita Committee while Sattar claims to represent the 90 percent voters and workers of the party.

Both the groups that oscillate between confrontation and reconciliation have fielded their own respective candidates for the Senate polls scheduled for March 3 and it is highly likely that the split party will get the lesser pie of its share as a minimum of 24 votes of members of the provincial assembly would be required to elect one senator. The party has around 50 MPs in the Sindh Assembly and around 24 seats in the National Assembly. Some of the party lawmakers have either defected or have joined the Pak Sarzameen Party led by Mustafa Kamal.

Taking to the media outside the ECP headquarters in Islamabad, MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Farogh Naseem, Waseem Akhtar, Aamir Khan and others said that they have asked the ECP to register the party in their name led by Siddiqui, as according to them, they were representing 95 percent of the Rabita Committee. Naseem said that the Sattar conducted so-called intra-party elections, which he said were illegal. He said that Siddiqui was an elected convener of the party and it should be registered in his name.  Naseem said that Sattar sought undefined time to submit the reply but the ECP asked him to submit the reply by March 1.

The PIB Group leaders including Kamran Tessori while taking to the media claimed that they will be sorted out things between the two factions.
