Voting for Senate seats underway

Islamabad March 3 (TNS): Voting for 52 vacant Senate seats is underway at the Parliament House and four provincial assemblies. The polling started at 9 am and will continue till 4 pm.

In total, 131 candidates are vying for 52 seats up for grab — 12 each for Sindh and Punjab, 11 each for Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, four for FATA and two for the federal capital.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has deployed Rangers and Frontier Constabulary personnel outside the Parliament House and provincial assemblies. The ECP has banned taking mobile phones and bags from taking to side the polling booths.

Rangers and Frontier Constabulary personnel have been deployed outside the provincial assemblies and Parliament.

Twenty candidates are in the race for 12 seats from Punjab, 33 for 12 seats from Sindh, 26 for 11 seats from KP, 25 for 11 seats from Balochistan, 24 for four seats from FATA and five for two seats from Islamabad.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is poised to getting the lion’s share from Punjab, the Pakistan People’s Party from Sindh, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and its allied parties from KP while the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam-F and the Jamat-e-Islami and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and other parties will get their share.
