Islamabad March 6 (TNS): After allegations of horse-trading in recently held Senate elections surfaced, the Election Commission of Pakistan has summoned leaders of political parties on March 14 to furnish evidence so that legal proceedings could be started against the lawmakers who allegedly sold their votes.

While taking notice of the reports, the poll body said that leaders of almost all political parties including PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, PTI chief Imran Khan and MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar had alleged that their lawmakers defected and voted to candidates of other parties.

The ECP said that strict action would be taken against MPs who have committed horse-trading and sold their votes against money as high as Rs50 million.

The PML-N said that they lost one Senate seat from Punjab after their lawmakers defected and cast vote to their rival party.

candidate. The PTI alleged that over 20 members of the party voted against the party candidates in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. The party has already initiated an inquiry after the PPP won two seats in the KP Assembly despite the fact that it has only six members in the provincial legislature.

Nawaz, Imran, Dr Sattar and other leaders are likely to appear before the ECP along with documents to corroborate their allegations.
