Islamabad March 12 (TNS): Secret voting for Senate chairman and deputy chairman slots gets underway in the Upper House of Parliament.
Senator Sadiq Sanjrani, an independent candidate from Balochistan, who is backed by the joint opposition including the PPP and the PTI and the MQM-P, is facing the ruling party and its allies’ joint candidate Raja Zafarul Haq for the Senate Chairman position. There is a neck and neck contest for the top slot as both the camps are claiming to have the support of the majority of members.
PPP’s Saleem Mandviwalla and Pakthunkhwa Milli Awami Party Senator Usman Khan Kakar are contesting the slot of deputy chairman.

Interestingly, the MQM-P, which is part of the opposition camp, has announced not to support the PPP candidate.
