KARACHI March 22 (TNS): An unusual scene was witnessed inside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Karachi on Thursday when the investigation team led by Senior Police Abid Qaimkhani appeared before the judge sans Rao Anwar, the wanted man in the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsood and three others in a fake encounter.
The episode baffled the judge, who asked the investigation officer to produce the arrested police officer today at any cost and halted the proceeding for a few hours.
When the investigation officer pleaded that Anwar will be presented at the next hearing, the judge expressed his annoyance and told him to produce the former SSP Malir.
Critics say that certain vested interests were creating bottlenecks in the fair trial of the Naqeebullah Mehsood and they were bent on saving Anwar and their own skin by trying to influence the JIT that has been formed by the Supreme Court to grill Rao Anwar in the fake murder case.

The chief justice has already rejected the plea of two intelligence agencies to include their men in the JIT.
The investigation team also produced suspended DSP Qamar Ahmed and nine other suspects in the fake murder case.
Meanwhile, talking to the media, Pir Rehman Mehsud, counsel for the Mehsud tribe, said they were expecting that the wanted policemen including Anwar will be punished according to the law.
