MQM-P union councillor shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI March 24 (TNS): A councillor of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan was shot dead in the Orangi Town late on Friday night.

Police said that UC-26 councillor, Anees Siddiqui, was in his house in Turi Bangash Colony when unidentified persons showed up and opened fire on him, fatally injuring him. Siddiqui was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The attackers fled the scene.

Senior Superintendent of Police Omer Shahid Hamid said the victim sustained a single bullet in his chest.

The SSP said the murder seemed to be a target killing. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way, he said.

Meanwhile, MQM-P leaders Amir Khan and Farooq Sattar condemned the incident and demanded the early arrest of the attackers.
