Islamabad March 26 (TNS): The audit has detected corruption and irregularities of Rs5.2 billion in the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metro bus project.

The audit has found irregularities/corruption in the procurement and contract management, construction and work and overpayment totaling into Rs5.2 billion while the total cost incurred on the project was Rs40.8 billion.

After the audit report was released, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan took to Twitter and took the Punjab government to task over corruption in almost every project.

“Punjab mired in mega corruption:”,  Imran said in a tweet.

“And so much for Shahbaz Sharif’s claim that there will not be even one rupee corruption in Punjab! Punjab mired in mega corruption whichever government project is audited,” he said in another tweet.

“Mega corruption and mismanagement pointed out by the audit in the Rawalpindi Islamabad Metro. Most cases forcibly suppressed by special departmental committee despite objections from the audit. So much for “good governance” in Punjab,” he said in another tweet.
