Rawalpindi March 28 (TNS): At least two persons including an under trial prisoner were killed and two others injured during a firing incident on the premises of the Rawalpindi Judicial Complex on Wednesday.
Police said that the under-trial prisoner, whose identity could not be ascertained immediately, was being offloaded from a police van when his rival ambushed him and killed him on the spot. Another person, who had turned up at the court to pursue a case, was also hit by a bullet fired by the unidentified assailants and died on the spot. Two other persons were also injured in the firing incident. The identity of the victims could not be identified immediately.
The attacker, according to the police, after killing the under trial prisoner, killed himself before injuring two other persons.
Soon after the incident, the lawyers took to the streets protesting the poor security arrangements. They said that the episode indicated that their and the judges’ lives were at risk and anybody could attack them with impunity. The lawyers were protesting outside the court premise till the filing of the report.
