ECP to take steps to scrutinize expenses of all successful candidates

Islamabad, August 8 (TNS): Election expenses of successful candidates will now be scrutinized by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) who have decided to investigate how the political bigwigs used their financial power to win.

Political wing of ECP will complete the scrutiny process within 90 days according to reports.

Around Rs 21 billion have been spent on the 2018 general elections and ECP has declared it as the most expensive in the history of the country.

A candidate cannot spend more than the limit prescribed by the Election Commission which is Rs 4 Million for National Assembly seats and Rs 2 Million while campaigning to contest for provincial assembly seats.

Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, PTI leader Abdul Aleem Khan, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah, PPP leader Faryal Talpur and others submitted the details of expenses.

Expenses details included a bank account statement utilized in election campaign, receipts of all spending incurred,

A copy of receipts is required for all posters and printed material used for campaigning purposes along with the name and contact information of the publisher of banners as well as candidate.
