ISLAMABAD March 29 (TNS): The Islamabad High Court on Thursday suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s verdict and restored Dr Farooq Sattar as convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan.

Earlier, the ECP had suspended Sattar as MQM-P chief after the MQM-P Bahadurabad Group led by Maqbool Siddiqui challenged his convenership and the intra-party elections which had elected Dr as the party convener.

Dr Sattar on Wednesday challenged the ECP order in the IHC, which on Thursday overturned the poll body order and restored Dr Sattar as party convener.

His counsel Babar Sattar argued that the MQM-P was registered in the name of Dar Sattar and the ECP could not interfere in internal matters of politicals parties. The IHC after suspending the ECP order summoned Khalid Maqbool and Kanwar Jameel at the next hearing.
