Islamabad, April 4 (TNS): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday filed an application with the Election Commission of Pakistan asking the poll body to allow the 17 newly elected independent senators to join the PML-N.
In the recently held Senate polls, 17 PML-N backed independent senators had made it to the Upper House of the Parliament.
The application was submitted to the ECP by Senator Asif Kirmani on behalf of Sharif, who is also the president of the PML-N.
“The law does not bar independent senators from joining any political party,” the PML-N chief said in the application.
Earlier, the ECP had barred the independent senators from joining any political party
The PML-N has come out as the single largest party in the Senate and it will have the strength of 33 senators if the independents were allowed to join the party.
