Washington, July 3 (TNS): Pakistan Ambassador to the United States Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry has said that Pakistan is ready to extend all possible cooperation for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

In an interview, he said both Pakistan and Afghanistan are victims of terrorism. He said instability in Afghanistan has always adversely affected Pakistan, state run Radio Pakistan reported.

The Ambassador said terrorists have established their sanctuaries in the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan along the Pakistan border from where they carry out their activities.

He said Pakistan has been witnessing 150 incidents of terrorism in a month, which have now come to halt due to countrywide operations against terrorists. He said Pakistan is targeting secret hideouts of terrorists.

Aizaz statement came at a time when veteran US congressman Senator John McCain made it clear that there was no change in the United States policy on the longstanding Kashmir dispute, stressing the need for an end to the current unrest in disputed Himalayan region.

McCain, the Chairman Senate Armed Services Committee, is leading a delegation of US senators including Senator Lindsey Graham, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator David Perdue and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse to Pakistan for talks with civil and military authorities on a host of issues including stability in Afghanistan.

US delegation headed by Senator John McCain along with Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa visited South Waziristan Agency on Monday.

The Delegation was briefed about Pak-Afghan border security including recent measures for its improvement through fencing and enhanced surveillance.
