Verdict announced: Nawaz, Tareen disqualified for life

Islamabad April 13 (TNS): The Supreme Court on Friday announced its verdict determining the timeframe for the disqualification of members of parliament under Article 62(1)(f) and declared that the disqualification of members under the article will be for life.
The unanimous verdict was announced by Justice Umar Ata Bandial. The verdict said that public representatives should be fair and clean. The permanent disqualification is neither arbitrary nor unjust nor unreasonable, it is ample, the bench said.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PTI lawmaker Jahangir Tareen were disqualified under Article 62(1)(f) for life and the latter had appealed in the Supreme Court, seeking to determine the timeframe for the disqualification.
The verdict was reserved by the five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on February 14.
The other members of the bench included Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah.
