Islamabad April 16 (TNS): Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has summoned the owner of Jang and Geo Mir Sakeel-ur Rehaman to appear before court on Tuesday over the outstanding dues and salaries of workers working in the media conglomerate.
During the hearing of the media commission case, anchor Hamid Mir, who also hosts a progamme named “Capital Talk” on Geo TV, told the bench that the group employees including him have not been paid for the last three months.
To this, the chief justice asked him how he could bear the expenses of his Mercedes.
The chief justice also told the anchor that some reporters have told him that they were paid pittance as compared to what the anchors were getting, which is in millions. The chief justice also asked anchorperson to raise his voice for the reporters and other media workers as well. On this, Hamid Mir said that he had already raised his voice for the media workers during the last hearing.
The chief justice observed that Geo TV pays Rs5.2 million to one anchor and Rs3.2 million to another, but its administration was not paying salaries of reporters and other media workers who get in a few thousand.
The chief justice asked the anchorperson to allocate a programme on the issues being faced by journalists, reporters and other media workers and the excess being meted out to them by the media owners.
The chief justice, meanwhile, summoned Jang owner Mir Shakeel-ur Rehman in person for Tuesday and apprise the court of the delay in releasing the pending salaries.
